Matric Mathematical Literacy Practice Test โ€” Grade 12 NSC

Free Matric Mathematical Literacy practice questions for Grade 12. Covers finance, measurement, data handling, maps and plans with full NSC-style explanations.

Mathematical Literacy tests your ability to use mathematics in real, everyday contexts โ€” not abstract theory. Every question in the NSC exam is embedded in a scenario: a household budget, a floor plan, a payslip, a graph of temperature readings. This practice set covers all four CAPS content areas: Number and Calculations (percentages, ratios, rates), Patterns, Relationships and Representations (graphs, tables, formulae), Space, Shape and Measurement (area, perimeter, volume, scale, time), and Data Handling (statistics, probability).

The most important exam technique: always read the context before doing any calculation. The context tells you what operation to use and what units your answer should be in. Students who jump straight to numbers frequently answer the right calculation for the wrong question.

Study tip: A calculator is allowed in both Mathematical Literacy papers. Use it to verify every calculation โ€” but set up the correct formula first. Most errors come from using the wrong formula, not from arithmetic mistakes.
