The AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) is achievable in 30 days with focused, daily study. At 1-2 hours per day, you can comfortably cover all four domains and pass your exam.

Why Start with Cloud Practitioner?

CLF-C02 is the entry point to the AWS certification track. It validates foundational cloud literacy and is recognised by thousands of employers as a signal of cloud competence. No prior cloud experience is required.

Exam Overview

The Four Domains and What to Focus On

Domain 1: Cloud Concepts (24%)

The value proposition of cloud computing, AWS global infrastructure (Regions, AZs, Edge Locations), the 6 advantages of cloud (trade capital for operational expense, massive economies of scale, stop guessing capacity, increase speed and agility, stop spending on data centres, go global in minutes).

Domain 2: Security and Compliance (30%)

Tour is the highest-weighted domain. Focus on: Shared Responsibility Model (AWS manages security OF the cloud, you manage security IN the cloud), IAM (users, groups, roles, policies), MFA, encryption at rest and in transit, compliance programmes (HIPAA, SOC, PCI DSS).

Key concept to master: The Shared Responsibility Model. AWS manages the physical infrastructure, hypervisor, and managed services. You manage guest OS, applications, data, identity, and access.

Domain 3: Cloud Technology and Services (34%)

The largest domain. Core services to know well:

Domain 4: Billing, Pricing and Support (12%)

Pricing models (On-Demand, Reserved, Spot, Savings Plans), Cost Explorer, Budgets, pricing calculators, support plans (Basic, Developer, Business, Enterprise).

Final week strategy: Take a full practice exam daily. Aim for 80%+ consistently before booking your exam. Focus extra time on IAM and the Shared Responsibility Model.

The 30-day plan, day by day

Week 1 (Days 1โ€“7): Core concepts. AWS Global Infrastructure (Regions, AZs, Edge Locations). Core services: EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda. IAM fundamentals. The Shared Responsibility Model. Pricing models (On-Demand, Reserved, Spot). Spend 45 minutes per day reading, then 15 minutes on Dragonfly practice questions for that day's topic.

Week 2 (Days 8โ€“14): Service depth. CloudFront, Route 53, VPC fundamentals, Load Balancers, Auto Scaling. Security services: KMS, Shield, WAF, Inspector, GuardDuty. Storage services: EBS, EFS, Storage Gateway, Snow family. Continue daily practice questions focused on each day's topics.

Week 3 (Days 15โ€“21): Breadth across all domains. Database services: DynamoDB, Aurora, ElastiCache, Redshift. Application services: SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Step Functions. Management tools: CloudWatch, CloudTrail, Config, Trusted Advisor. Billing: Cost Explorer, Budgets, Savings Plans.

Week 4 (Days 22โ€“30): Practice tests and gap closure. Do a full 65-question practice test on Day 22. Review every wrong answer in detail. Spend Days 23โ€“27 on your weakest domains. Day 28โ€“29: two more full practice tests. Day 30: light review only, rest, sleep well.

What the exam actually tests

The CLF-C02 exam has 65 questions (50 scored, 15 unscored) and a 90-minute time limit. The four domains are: Cloud Concepts (24%), Security and Compliance (30%), Cloud Technology and Services (34%), and Billing, Pricing, and Support (12%). Security is the largest domain โ€” many candidates underweight it. Know the Shared Responsibility Model in detail, understand which services are customer-managed versus AWS-managed, and know the security services (Shield, WAF, GuardDuty, Inspector, Macie) and what each one does.
